Our Story

Since childhood we have grown up in in our Dad’s custom home building business learning on the job!  We took over his business when he retired and as a licensed builder my goal was to market the homes we were building in the community but I quickly found my passion shift from building homes to working with people looking to market their homes for sale.

Since 1999, I have been a Realtor – The best part of my job is helping clients prepare their homes to sell.  I began to notice that when I stage our listings they sell faster and for more money.

In 2017, we partnered with my sister Cindi to create our staging and design company (Michigan Staging & Design).

Cindi is a licensed Realtor and has been “in and around” the building business her entire life.  Her extensive background in the High End Fashion industry has given her prime skills to take into the Staging & Design industry.  Being married to a licensed builder – for the past 25 years she has been responsible for much of the design work.  Her passion and eye for “what looks great and works” is impeccable and transfers to our homeowners to help showcase their homes to their full potential in order to give them the marketing edge to stand out against the competition.

To give every property a fresh, relevant look by using decorating techniques to create an environment to which buyers can feel that if they buy this house they can live like this.  And by using the art of positioning to create several emotional connection points throughout the home so that when a buyer steps into the house they “feel home”.

Our Philosophy…..Feeling home!

What does feeling home look like? It’s a combination of eight things we analyze over the course of the staging process in each room in order to create a lasting impression for the home buyer:

  • First Impressions – In our consultation, we will walk through your home room-by- room and take note of our first impressions, what grabs us, what glares at us and what gives us a feeling of home. Buyers will form a first impression immediately upon viewing the home, so we need to make each room count!
  • Eliminating Clutter — The packing starts now, as we pack away a good percentage of everything in the room in order to create a more clean, open and spacious feel. In the consultation we will discuss what can be packed away before the staging day, so that we get the most from our time.
  • Emphasizing the Positive While Downplaying the Negative — Finding your beautiful focal points, we will emphasize what we love about the room and hide or distract from the negative aspects of the rooms.
  • Lighten Up — Focusing on lighting and color, we will make each room into a bright, warm and inviting space to which buyers can respond.
  • Home Buyer’s Appeal – In order for a buyer to “feel home,” it is important for them to be presented with a depersonalized “canvas” upon which they can visualize their family portrait. We’ll depersonalize the space while retaining the warmth and fun of photos.
  • Obligations – Cleaning and Repairs – The dirty work speaks for itself but is often overlooked because you’ve lived here for so long. Let’s get rid of the buyer’s mental repair list by doing it ourselves before our staging time together, so we get the most out of the day.
  • Modernizing – This involves updating your style and building simple accessories out of what you already have to create clean lines, scale, rhythm and form.
  • Emotional Connection Points – Creating the “Wow Factor” — This is the fun part and is a huge focus in our positioning strategy. We’ll build in these subtleties in order to make the buyers subconsciously desire to live here and “feel home”. The “emotional connection points” are where marketing strategy really comes into play and we are experts at putting this together for you!
